Welcome to COMALA
COMALA is a charming bed and breakfast nestled in the heart of Oaxaca de Juárez, offering a perfect blend of comfort, culture, and convenience. Rated 4.6, this inviting property stands out for its warm hospitality and prime location on Calle de José María Pino Suárez, just steps away from vibrant markets, bustling bars, and renowned restaurants. Guests consistently praise the exceptionally friendly staff, who create a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.
The rooms, though modest in size, provide clean, air-conditioned comfort designed for restful nights after full days exploring Oaxaca’s rich heritage. COMALA’s rooftop terrace serves as a tranquil retreat where visitors can savor breakfast or admire breathtaking mountain sunsets—a highlight that many guests, including Benjamin Friedman and Dave Rader, found truly memorable. The rooftop's cozy ambiance makes it an ideal place to unwind and connect with fellow travelers.
Beyond its inviting accommodations, COMALA excels in accessibility and thoughtful amenities. Complimentary Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping, and filtered water in communal areas cater to modern needs without overshadowing the authentic local experience. The location is especially favorable for visitors eager to explore nearby landmarks such as the baroque Santo Domingo Church, the Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca, and the flavorful street food at Mercado 20 de Noviembre. Easy access to airport shuttles and inclusive pet- and kid-friendly policies make COMALA a practical choice for a wide range of travelers.
The only noted caveat is the room size and bedding for couples, which some find a bit tight, yet this does little to detract from the overall experience. Cleanliness, quiet surroundings despite the central setting, and attentiveness of hosts like Andres and Alejandro reinforce COMALA’s reputation as a reliable haven in Oaxaca’s lively Centro district.
In essence, COMALA embodies the spirit of Oaxaca—welcoming and vibrant, yet intimate and serene. For those seeking a genuine local stay enriched by cultural treasures, spirited street life, and heartfelt service, this bed and breakfast offers an ideal base. It invites guests to immerse themselves fully in the rhythms of Oaxaca while resting comfortably in a thoughtfully maintained, community-centered space.

Tucked away in the middle of everything Comala bed and breakfast checks all the boxes. Starting off with the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. They make you feel at home from hello to goodbye. Amazing location. Close to the markets, bars, restaurants, tours, etc. Theres even late night lechon tacos right around the corner. Cozy rooftop bar. Very yummy breakfast to start the day. Comfy and clean rooms. Stay here when in Oaxaca!
Great location and great property! Andres, Alejandro and the rest of the staff were great hosts and very accommodating. The mountain sunset views from the rooftop terrace/bar are amazing as well. We watched the sunset most nights of our stay. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking about booking.
We loved the hotel the service is great and the location too. Around nice restaurants and bars. The rooftop is super cute to chill. I put 4 stars because the bed is way too small foe two adults. Other than that the hotel is great for a couple of days.
Such a wonderful place to stay in Oaxaca. The proprietor is incredibly friendly, always greeting us with a “hola chicas!” every day. Gorgeous rooftop that serves breakfast, well-appointed, aesthetically pleasing rooms. Very attentive daily housekeeping. Next door to a little convenience store, so easy to stock up on water and snacks. This hotel is right in the middle of a very cool area, nearby a lot of good restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, museums, and sights. I could not recommend it more highly!
I have a short stay, 2 nights at Comala Bed & breaakfast. My review and grade is based on the price and my expectations of this bed & breakfast hotel. The location is great only 4 blocks (5 min walk from the major pedestrian street (Calle Macedonio Alcala) and approximatley 10 min nice walk from the main square, Zocalo de Oaxaca. The hotel is nice but the rooms are quite small and basic. The Queen size bed is excellent and it is quite from the traffic at night (I stayed in room 6). The hotel has an amazing roof top terrace ideal to have some drinks and enjoy the views over the city and the surrounding mountains. The team who is working here is really nice and helpful! There are several nice restaurants and Mezcal bars in the area and as mentioned it is close to the Zocalo de Oaxaca. The breakfast, which was very good, is served under the entrance portal downstairs , quite close to the street. It would have been even nicer to enjoy the breakfast at the roof top terrace, but you can probably bring the breakfast upstairs if you ask. The surrounding streets feels like a village (however with quite a lot of traffic) with most buildings in only 1-2 floors, feels safe but watch out for the cars. They do rarely stop as pedestrian crossings. Overall I give top scores based on the location, price, bed, service and the roof terrace. The hotel is not your place if you are looking for luxurey (go to Quinta Real) but I highly recommend it you appreciate location, bed quality, nice friendly service to a compeititive price!
An excellent place for a few nights stay in Oaxaca. No frills, but clean, comfortable and centrally located. Rooms are cleaned daily, internet is reliable, it was quiet at night, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooftop was a nice bonus, although there wasn't much happening up there while we stayed. Filtered water was available in the common areas and a lending library was located down the hall. We highly recommend Comala for the price point!
We stayed here for a couple of days and were really happy about it; the location is very central yet quiet for comfortable sleeping, the AC, hot water, decoration (especially the terrace with a great view) were great. Also a big thank you to the staff and the manager: they were very helpful and nice. Hope we can come again some day.
